This paradisiac property is situated on the „Sheep‘s Head“ peninsula, which in 2009 received the European Destination of Excellence Award: with spectecular wild and rocky landscapes, wide open skies and sunsets.
The maritime gulf-stream climate guarantees fresh air without any pollution.
Durrus is the nearest village (6 km) with 4 pubs, 2 churches, a small supermarket, a traditional general store and post office.
The seat of the local authorities of the area is in Bantry. In this little town you find schools, a hospital, medical practitioners, further shopping and a weekly market, cinema, cafés, restaurants and hotels.
Sporting pursuits in the area include golf, watersports, sailing, fishing and hill walking.
The „Sheep‘s Head Way“ is an extensive footpath round the entire peninsula and passes close by the house.
The nearest city is Cork with an international airport, a ferry to Swansea and rail connections to Dublin and other towns of Ireland.
The property has an area of about 12 hectares (30 acres).
It reaches about 450 metres from the northern country road sloping gently in southern direction, crossing the new coastal road, down to the shore of Dunmanus Bay.
The own sea shore, about 300 metres long, forms the southern boundary of the estate.
Here you find a little cove, which in the past was used for boat mooring, and which could be renovated for this purpose.
After careful deliberation the house was erected at some distance to the sea sheltered from the salty air, it has an elevated and open position looking across the bay which towards the west changes into the Atlantic Ocean.
From the northern country road passing through the imposant gateway and a 120 metres long boulder lined driveway you arrive at the building group of the dwelling and garage.
The house is surrounded by reinforced terraces and adjoining expanses of lawn and meadow.
The whole land and soil is in natural condition, not a single time fertilizer or other chemicals were applied so that no harmful substances exist.
The land is suitable for gardening, creative landscaping, also for the keeping of animals (sheep, goats, horses).
In the southern part you find remains of a small church dated about 1780.
The dwelling house was completed in the year 2000.
The building planning was drawn up by present owners, a german couple of architects.
The construction is very solid and sturdy.
The outer walls are constructed as a double wall of concrete blocks, in between a vertical heat insulation layer. Outside the walls are completed with 25 cm (10 inches) of natural stone.
The floor of the ground storey consists throughout of several layers:
− a lower concrete protective layer
− then a moisture and water proofing membrane
− then a heat insulation layer
− then a concrete layer and covering with slates
The windows consist of PVC frames with double glazing.
The roof is covered with artificial imitation slates.
Heating and warm water supply are provided by central heating (oil, kerosine) – fuel store in the garage for 2500 litres.
For supplementing the heating a special wood-burning stove (with oven) is available in the dining hall.
For supply with clean, fresh water there exists an own deep bored well with automatic pump on the property. The network of pipes is made of PVC and stainless steel.
For sewage disposal there exist septic tanks.
Equipment and fittings of bathroom, WC, kitchen are in german standard and quality, functional and operational.
The whole usable and living space of all rooms in the house is about 210 square metres (250 square yards)
